It’s 1983, and a Korean family moves from California to rural Arkansas to begin afresh. Dad dreams of growing Korean vegetables, Mom has massive doubts, their son has heart problems, Grandma arrives to take care of the kids (while the parents work at their day job of sexing chickens), and they are befriended by a religious fanatic. This Academy-Award-winning film (with six nominations!) tells the classic immigrant story, wonderfully acted, with all the feelings: at times funny, sad, intense, and light-hearted. And the cinematography is outstanding.
