Pulling off a wedding can be stressful to anyone, but in the case of Alain and Virginie’s big day, just about everything that could go wrong does, yielding scenes both comic and poignant.
Alain is a writer of divorced Lebanese and Egyptian parents and has inherited his father’s Crohn’s disease. Add to that an overbearing wedding planner (also a relative), an unreliable best man/best friend, and the expectations of the bride’s family, and we have a recipe for mounting anxiety. Alain’s story is told by a series of flashbacks that aren’t necessarily chronological but do inform his state of mind. We aren’t told as much about the bride Virginie, except that she is lovely, tolerant and very forgiving. This touching film will find you cheering for the newly married couple.
