In this inspiring documentary, the filmmakers use archival footage and new interviews to tell the story of the unofficial 1971 Women’s World Cup, a moment virtually erased from the history of soccer thanks to the pettiness and bias of FIFA (the governing body of football).
Copa 71 uncovers a wealth of archival footage from 1971 when Mexico City held an international event billed as the Women’s World Cup. Teams came from Argentina, Denmark, England, France, Italy, and Mexico, playing a tournament to over 100,000 fans in Azteca Stadium. It was an unparalleled audience for women’s sports. (TIFF)

In a world where a disease has caused people to communicate solely by singing, two dudes embark on a quest for the cure.
This short film was produced by a team of Elphinstone Secondary School filmmakers for Vancouver’s Run ’n’ Gun film festival. Over 2,000 participants — ranging from motion picture professionals to amateur auteurs — competed in the festival to create short films within a 48-hour period. The Sunshine Coast team was the only high school team shortlisted in the festival’s semifinals, and its entry was selected for public viewing at the Orpheum Theatre.
