Theeb

UAE/Qatar/Jordan 2014, 100 min, drama. Arabic with English subtitles.
Director: Naji Abu Nowar.

Photo still from 'Theeb'

Set in the waning days of the Ottoman Empire, this epic coming-of-age story follows a young Bedouin boy who comes from a family of guides. Theeb decides to pursue his older brother who is guiding a British soldier on a secret mission, but when things go horribly wrong he is caught between survival and loyalty in the vast, unforgiving desert. Oscar nominated for best foreign film of 2016, this riveting drama is superbly performed by a largely nonprofessional but very authentic cast.

"A classic adventure film of the best kind, boasting stunning locales in a well-told story about a young Bedouin boy outwitting potential enemies in the desert.” — Jay Weissberg, Variety
