In Her Place

Canada/S. Korea, 115 min, drama. Korean with English subtitles.
Director: Albert Shin.

"Societal demands and class differences are just two of the factors that stir this dramatic pressure cooker.” — Radheyan Simonpillai, Now Magazine

A desolate farm provides the backdrop for an atmosphere of moody tension within which three women—an odd and pregnant teen, her weathered and impoverished mother, and a visiting wealthy and hopeful adopting mother-to-be—each seek to fill a void within. Their deliberately paced interaction builds to a shattering and surprising finale. This enigmatic and ambiguous story is beautfully shot amid the misty landscape of rural South Korea.
