Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry

USA 2012, 91 min, documentary. In English and Mandarin with English subtitles.
Director: Alison Klayman

Still from 'Ai Weiwei: Never Sorry'

This Sundance-prize-winning portrait of China’s most famous artist — the Beijing 2008 Olympics consultant named “the most powerful contemporary artist” by ArtReview magazine — reveals a man of unrelenting spirit and defiance, inspiring millions across the globe. Ai gained worldwide attention after his arrest and detention by state authorities, and continues to express his feelings towards Chinese censorship through his art and social media.

Beijing-based journalist/filmmaker Klayman gained unprecedented access to Ai Weiwei, documenting his artistic process (in preparation for major museum exhibitions), intimate exchanges with family members, and increasingly public clashes with the Chinese government. Don’t miss this nuanced exploration of contemporary China and one of its most compelling public figures.
