Potiche is a delightful and charming French comedy. François Ozon (8 Women) directs the extraordinary Catherine Deneuve and Gérard Depardieu in this story about a 1970s housewife who takes the reins of her ailing family business and steers it to success.

Deneuve has garnered much critical acclaim for her role as Suzanne Pujol, the intelligent, revolutionary, coy, witty and middle-aged housewife who transforms her family’s umbrella factory into a utopian coexistence of French labour ideals and capitalism. Although this film examines some serious subject matter such as the gender and class struggles of the time, it does so in an exceptional, comedic and lighthearted manner.
